FERROUGE

FERROUGE

Inspired by vintage diners, Ferrouge is a dining chair that brings a pop of color to the room using only wood and metal.

Sketching and quick cardboard models were used to iterate on the possible forms that the chair could take,

While designing Ferrouge, I wanted it to be reminiscent of the feelings of diners. In order to capture this, I knew that the form of it had to be eyecatching in some way, while incorporating bright colors. In order to accomplish this, Ferrouge is made up of three major circles, meant to overlap and draw attention.

Building process

ferrouge was made with a combination of wood working, metal bending, and welding to create the main components,

The disconnected back of the chair to the seat not only added an interesting look to the chair, but because of the nature of the metal, it allowed the chair to recline back to the user’s needed angle whenever they sat in the chair. The shape and the use of the metal allowed some freedom of movement without taking away from the support of the back of the chair.

This project inspired me to always consider deeply the different properties of the materials picked in a design, as there are always ways to elevate the uses of the project based on ways that the material properties may differ from one another.
